A Summer golf trip to Williamsburg is closer to the PGA tour than you may think. Several area courses feature hybrid Champion Bermuda greens used at many of the PGA Tour's top host sites including TPC Sawgrass. Champion Bermuda thrives in summer heat allowing course superintendents to push playing conditions in summer months. Additionally, all Williamsburg area courses feature Bermuda fairways and tees that make summer playing conditions significantly better than northern courses with cool season grasses like bent.
Ford’s Colony’s Blue Heron was the first course in the area to convert to Bermuda greens in 2015. Williamsburg Nationals Jamestown Course and the Marsh Hawk course at Ford’s Colony both converted to Champion Bermuda summer 2017. In 2019 the Mike Strantz most jewel Royal New Kent went through extensive rehabilitation and re-opened with Champion Bermuda greens. Both Fords Colony and Williamsburg National have special summer unlimited rates for golfers that want to take advantage of extended daylight and play more than 18 holes.
